So many things to sketch! Following the Gobi Expedition vicariously from a distance makes me want to get out there and run, travel sketch, explore and paint. Ray Zahab and the i2P team - an inspiration to us all! What an incredible place this planet Earth is - so much to see!
One of the most beautiful aspects of the i2P expeditions is the crossing of cultures. There may be a language barrier, but Ray and the i2P team have proven that this is not an impediment to connect in a truly positive way with people who live in some of the most remote areas on earth.
Looks like Ray has company on his long runs! Kevin Lin appears to be back in action, Bob Cox has joined in for a couple of days and Ray has even solicited one of the locals to run with him! Looking good Ray! Keep it up Dude!
I am following Ray's lead, by challenging myself not only to a painting a day, but a run a day as well. They say it takes 20 days to make or break a habit. Perhaps following the 35 day Gobi Challenge, I will have created massive change.
Painting is much like running. You may not always want to do it, but when you do, you become totally immersed and there is an amazing sense of accomplishment when you are done. Whether putting one foot in front of the other, or brush to canvas, both are moving meditations.
OK - You know you are motivated and inspired by the Gobi Desert Expedition when:
1. You register for Ray Zahab's i2P 38km run at Lac Philippe in August 2013 AND
2. You register for the New York City Marathon in November 2013
Ray - I hold you responsible!!
Day 5 - Ray is now a couple hundred Kilometers into his 2300km run across the Gobi Desert. Kevin Lin has suffered a leg injury so he is taking it easy rehabilitating so that he can continue on with Ray on the trek. So far they have been in the grasslands just on the edge of the Gobi Desert proper, and the team is being eaten alive from voracious mosquitoes. As Ray put it, Northern Ontario pales in comparison to the mosquitoes they are encountering in the Gobi.
